The Willow Fairy

by Sprite Guard

A prince once wandered in the wood
He found a fairy in a tree
And thought that she was looking good
And thought what a sweet love she'd be

He watched her standing naked there
She watched the world as it went by
And acted as though unaware
That she had caught a prince's eye

"So beautiful this sight I see
My heart beats faster faster still
Have I now found the one for me?
My eyes, my eyes must drink their fill!

Oh will you, will you be my love?
Oh will you, will you lie with me?
Oh are you, are you from above
You beauty standing in the tree?"

The nymph said nothing, met his stare
Her piercing eyes saw through his words
Gave no reply except to glare
The silence pierced by singing birds

"Pray tell, my love, what troubles you
Pray tell me why you don't reply
I swear to you my love is true
So true that I could almost die.

I see you ready to be wed
So why not yield to nature's law
And join me in a leafy bed
The truest love god ever saw."

The nymph said nothing, met his stare
Her piercing eyes saw through his words
Gave no reply except to glare
The silence pierced by singing birds

"I understand, I see it now
Contempt is all you feel for me
Contempt! And yet I wonder how
While naked there for all to see."

The fairy answered then, and said,
"This is my home, and you intrude
One day, I hope, you will turn red
To think you ever were so rude.

Now go away. I have no need
For words of lust dressed up in rhyme
Your true love's flower is a weed
That wastes an honest person's time"
